PRISON MINISTRY

 

 

"Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, make this proclamation: The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, and drive out demons. Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give."

 

St. Dismas Guild ministers to prisoners across the country by providing Catholic Bibles, The Bread of Life Catholic Bible Study and several other publications free of charge.

 

When St. Dismas began, its focus was to provide a monthly newsletter to inmates and interested Catholics to share Testimonies, to give Counsel, and to provide hope to those who are imprisoned physically and imprisoned by sin; the hope that only comes through Jesus Christ.

 

Each month, St. Dismas Guild sends out over four thousand newsletters. Each year, this Ministry distributes over two thousand packages to prisoners and the poor. Below is a list of books and materials that are available free of charge to prisoners and those who cannot afford them:

 

1.      The Good News Catholic Bible

The Good News Bible is written in plain, simple English which makes it easy to read and understand.  It is available in English or Spanish.

 

2.      The Bread of Life Catholic Bible Study by Deacon Ken and Marie Finn

This Bible Study is based on the Sunday readings.  There are 3 volumes (A, B and C) which correspond to the cycles of the Church Year.  This study consists of questions, commentary and application.  It is available in English or Spanish.

 

3.      The Basic Catechism of Christian Doctrine

This booklet contains a simple question and answer review of Catholic teaching. It contains brief, direct answers to over 300 questions on all aspects of the Catholic Faith.  It is available in English or Spanish.

 

4.      Secrets of a Happy Family by Deacon Ken and Marie Finn

This book was written to provide a solid biblical understanding of God’s plan for the role of the man, woman, couple (husband and wife), child and parent in the family.  It is available in English only.

 

5.      The Gospels in their Original Meaning by Deacon Larry Michaels

This book is available in English only.

 

6.      Revelation in Its Original Meaning by Deacon Larry Michaels

This book is available in English only.

 

 

7.      When I Was in Prison – Hope for the Hopeless by Father Paulsen

This book is available in English only.         

 

8.      Overcoming Sexual Abuse – Wounds that Heal by Marie Finn

This booklet was written with the purpose to help those who have experienced sexual abuse receive healing through forgiveness. It is available in English only.

 

9.      Pray in the Spirit – Prayers for Prisoners

This small paperback book includes traditional Catholic prayers as well as prayers written specifically for circumstances that apply to those in prison. It is available in English and Spanish.

 

10.  Pamphlets

11.  Rosaries are available only if you send a signed authorization form from the facility stating that you are allowed to receive a rosary or if a Chaplain or Priest will agree to receive it for you. All rosaries are black plastic beads on a white cord.
